Canadian property investment: Does Canada have what it takes to lure long-term property investors?

Mature European property markets have entered tough times - falling prices or lack of capital growth.
Central and Eastern Europe still offers strong capital growth - but not all investors like their emerging character of these markets - strong capital growth but generally fairly undeveloped rentals.
Many then are looking for investment opportunities outside Europe.
Canada is high on many people's list. The market is generally perceived as mature and established, even though some locations could be more properly considered as emerging markets.
Strong demand for rental accommodation and the market's transparency are key encouragements for potential investors.
The evidence leads us to believe that the Canadian market, for the most part, is now close to the end of its growth cycle after strong performances between 1999 and 2007, when prices almost doubled. The best evidence of this is that capital growth has slowed or stopped in real terms since the start of 2008.
