On the face of it, Cape Verde seems to have all the right ticks in all the right boxes to make it one of the most promising emerging investment locations of 2007, writes Tony Booth.
If someone had asked me to point out where Cape Verde was on a world atlas three years ago, like many people, I would probably have struggled. How things change. It has been a prime topic of conversation with speculators over the last couple of years, since they found it rising up listings of good potential investment locations.
Like all opportunities of this nature, buying on this former Portuguese colony doesn't come without risk - and not least, because it's primary source of revenue and economic stability depends on tourism. The future performance of property values are therefore highly subject to Cape Verde's expanding popularity with holidaymakers.
But the question is - if I wanted to invest in property abroad, would I put this seemingly idyllic euro-tropical location at the top of my 'most-promising best-buy' shortlist? The honest answer is I would do more than that. I would buy there. I would do it right now...and here's why...
