If it walks, talks and quacks like a time share, then it is a time share, although fractional ownership is often tarred by the same brush, writes Robert Liebman.
Popular and heavily marketed a few decades ago, time share proved financially ruinous for many investors.
Going to the same flat in the same place year after year looked good at first but soon became boring. But the maintenance fees still had to be paid, and when investors tried to offload the burden, buyers willing to take this hairshirt off their backs were scarce to nonexistent.
Fractional ownership is different.
