Once famous for little more than some very nice cheeses and the birthplace of Gary Lineker, Leicester has gone from a warm-speck to a glowing hotspot on the UK property investment map.

It has a rich supply of tenants and a melting-pot of house types - everything from the humble two-up two-down, to stylish million pound homes, writes Tony Booth.

More importantly, for those looking for capital appreciation, Leicester's average property increase over the last year has been an impressive 12 per cent ... and the accelerated interest from would-be homebuyers shows no sign of abating.

It is the tenth largest city in England and has the largest population within city limits in the East Midlands.
