Romanian election results - what they mean for the country

On November 30, Romanians voted in parliamentary elections. For a country, which only now is starting to feel the effects of the global financial crisis on a meaningful scale and significant layoffs are being announced, future political direction is of special interest.
Despite the seriousness of the current global situation, according to the Central Electoral Bureau, only 39% of Romanians voted. That's the lowest turnout since 1989.
Exit polls show that the greatest number of votes in the lower house of parliament were gained by the Social Democratic Party (36.2%), followed by Liberal Democratic Party (30.3%) and the ruling National Liberal Party (20.4%).
Similar results were achieved in the Senate, but for the final results we need to wait until the next week.
