Staying out of court - How landlords can use the Residential Property Tribunal Service
21st July 2007

The Housing Act 2004 has expanded the role of the Residential Property Tribunal Service (RPTS) for all landlords, but more so for certain tenants and some types of let-property.
The RPTS can be a useful helping-hand for landlords who find themselves involved in a dispute with the local authority, as in many cases it can negate the necessity of having to take the matter to court.
The RPTS is a public body that deals with a wide range of matters involving landlord and tenant conflicts and leasehold disputes.
The role of the RPTS is restricted by legislation, which means they are prohibited from getting involved in some areas of landlord and tenant dispute, though their powers have been considerably expanded since the introduction of the new Housing Act.
