UK Buy To Let Property: Banning bad lads!
11th November 2008
By Tony Booth
Both as a landlord and letting agent, I have signed-up a large number of young property sharing tenant groups in my time - including bands of students, society opt-outs and drop-outs - and even a ménage a trios or two.
And looking back, the biggest problems I've experienced have always (always) been with exclusively male tenant groups, particularly young single men who seem blind and oblivious to the chaos their drunken all-nighters' create.
Am I now being sexist by declining to accept groups that consist exclusively of young men? Or am I simply protecting my property, profitability and sanity? And moreover, am I legally permitted to discriminate in this way?
Before I venture down a troublesome cul-de-sac and invite criticism, let me explain right at the start of this article that I am not saying all young single men fall into the same 'bad-apple barrel'.
