In January I shall be refinancing a couple of Northern properties and should have a deposit sufficient to start a southern portfolio as well as the Middlesbrough one. I intend to buy something up to £200k locally to me in Bristol. Does anyone else already have properties in the city and have any views on good areas to buy for easy letting and good growth? I would also be interested in recommendations for tradespeople.

Hi Jerry,
I was living and working in Bristol for many years but now living and working abroad. In the mean time I am in
the process of investing in the Bristol area.
There are many developments in Bristol at present. The city center waterside area is a hive of activity, but from what I have seen these units are pricy. Crest Nicholson is the primary developer in this area. Lindon homes is also very active in different parts of Bristol.
Bristol is divided, as with most cities into sub areas.
Not sure what market you are targeting, but
Clifton/Redland/Cotham - more Victorian/Georgian style and more up market - Popular with high income earners, Profesionals and Students.
There are many Student let buildings, owned by the Universities, under construction. Not sure how much and how soon these will have a impact on the general student let market.
I am working on developing my Property Investment Portfolio and experience, so I would suggest that you contact a few Letting and Estate Agents for more information, but I hope the above is useful.
