Great artical I've tried getting insurance to cover me for such an event but have been rebuffed as the block insurance that i contribute to already covers building and contents - but not the loss of revenue and a hotel for the tenants - and will not accept a second policy on each of my flats. Can you pass on contact details for your insurer please?

I'd suggest that all PS partners who recommend or source insurance - I'm thinking specifically of RedNET in Poland, but I'm sure there are others elsewhere - should ensure that their recommendations cover all the eventualities noted in this article.

Hi. First of all, sorry for the late reply - I've been busy writing other pieces for PS, which you may have seen, and also dealing with various other commitments postponed due to the festive season.
Insurance for let properties is a nightmare and I am always reluctant to recommend a particular provider, because other investors may have a different experience (a bit like advising someone which hotel to use while on holiday, then later finding out they had a dreadful time). Anyway, the one I used was Sun Alliance who at the time had a very good and comprehensive landlord specified buildings policy. There are now lots of good providers available for landlords, including several high street names. All I would suggest is that people READ policies thoroughly and get any questions or concerns answered in writing, before signing up to any particular one.
