SunGod

Our view on embarking on buying with MRI was the same. Any company of that size has good and bad reviews. However, their sales operation was fantastic and we had not worries about the markets we were investing in.

HOWEVER - I can now say DO NOT TOUCH THEM WITH A BARGE POLE!! I cannot stress to anyone enough how important it is to steer clear. Once the deposit is paid on your properties they do not want to know.

Their aftersales is non-existent, even if you join their 'Lifetime Aftersales Club' - we have had problems in Portugal and Romania with them and have lost a lot of money and wasted a lot of time.

Same as Lynn - we have completed but we are still awaiting furniture packs we paid for over a year ago.

The north side of Bucharest is very crowded. There is no infrastructure and all the infrastructure works are almost stopped. (roads, public transportation, water, electricity, sewage un-existent)
Avoid the Pipera area as it is a nightmare of trafic..and none of the above infrastructure exist.

I have also paid a deposit on an apartment in the City Residence development and can also only obtain verbal responses from the MRI office in Spain. Our lawyer in Bucharest still seems to be involved and prepared to help. I did buy two properties in Berlin last year through MRI, and using the same law firm, and that has gone smoothly, largely because the mortgage company, lawyers and banks in Berlin are so efficient. Disappointing to hear that there will be no help on aftersales but if the development in Bucharest has at least started that is good news..

I've bought Adelaide property in Bucharest.
And also wanted to buy the apt. in Bansko/Bulgaria. MRI agent informed me that the apt. in Bulgaria was double booked, I asked him to hold the deposit, but the lawyer transfered the money to the developer. That's how I lost 3000 euros and got no help form MRI to get it back. Sales Manager _ Jonathon - one big joke!

All I can say is - stay away form MRI! Once the deposit is transfered they don't replay on your e-mails or give you any assistance. I've been waiting for their response for weeks, and then it was only lies and lies. Aftersale is another scam!

before an experience with Bulgaria I'd purchased apt. in Romania, have no up-date for 6 months, got no replays on my e-mail, no assistance reg. getting the mortgage.

The Voldemort of Overseas Property (who don't like to be named) seem to have changed office location in Bucharest 3 or 4 times this year - we know because of trying to effect service on them. This already allows conclusions to be drawn.

Interestingly, one of the Voldemort addresses in Romania coincided with that of the "independent" lawyers. Of course, this could also be coincidence, but perhaps it is also a coincidence that M is also the initial for Madoff?

Still at least Voldemort dreams of bringing Fernando Torres to Peterborough United, so guesses may be hazarded at where the money goes....Pop goes the Weasel!

Aman, think VERY carefully before throwing more money at these people! I have bought in Adelaide. The programme is very delayed, and many people are now using the clause in their contract to try and claim back deposit and exchange monies. I am thinking of doing the same. I have pretty much accepted I will never get my GBP30k back, but would like to give it a shot! My solicitors have advised that it takes many months and is dependant on whether a judge deems you worthy as to whether you succeed. One thing I am really reluctant to do is hand over any more money though! South Pacific, to their credit, appear to be trying to get things moving along, but by virtue of their links to MRI (don't even get me started on them!!) I am reluctant to part with any more money!
Sungod! That's great you are still so positive but starting to sound like an agent infiltrating the forum! People are just advising you to be cautious... MRI are not some company that have just "made a few mistakes" They have no complaints procedure, protect each other by not allowing contact to higher management and are more than willing to turn their backs. I only wish the research I'd done before buying with them before had turned up half the stuff I now find!

I also bought in Adelaide and cant get my deposit back.
I went over there last week and work has stopped comletely, there wasnt a soul in sight!
Its alot of money to loose, are you confident that your solicitor will get this back for you?
Is there any other help out there?
