Just on the forum and spotted your question, so answering ... David may well give more info too in due course. The short answer is probably yes, since additional insurance is often a mandatory requirement of acquiring the headlessor's permission to let. Even if they don't demand it, specialised landlord insurance for buildings (which is much more comprehensive than ordinary or block building insurance) is advisable and will usually cover you for typical let-property expenses, in the event of disaster.

Anthony, You need to ask for a copy of the policy. I have 3 leashold buy to lets, for 2 of these the insurance cover is very good with no provisos about letting the flat. The third limits compensation for having to move out of the flat while repairs take place to £3000. I decided to accept the risk but others may prefer take out a landlord policy to top this up. Sorry for not replying earlier. I would agree with what Alan and Tony have already said. For the four flats I own the block buildings insurance is v.comprehensive and about as good as any specialist landlord policy. But it is worth checking though. Good luck David Lawrenson
