I will be in Warsaw next week and would like to open a bank account. I'm looking for good ways to move money in and out and occasional service in English. For the most part this will be an electronic relationship, I assume. I'd like to hear your Yea or Nay about banks you've dealt with or have an account with. Thanks. (I had been waiting to obtain a mortgage before opening an account but do not wish to wait any longer.) (I do not speak Polish.)

Hi I have one internet bank account with Nordea, which I openned in the Nordea Poland, but did not need to be there. Good service. I.e. I opened signing the documents in London. Now I just opened one at Citibank Poland as Citibank do not charge to for transfer from Citibank Uk to Citibank Poland. For Citibank you will need to sign the papers in Warsaw. You will also need to call there and arrange an appointment and bring the documents they will request. Erico

I have an account with BZWBK. Signed the application in Warsaw. Took me about 15 minutes. They offer internet banking, using sms confirmation. Foreign based telephone numbers are accepted as well. I usually transfer bulk amounts to my BZWBK account once or twice a year and then process the various local payments I have to do on the internet. I once asked them to raise my internet tranfer limit to an equivalent of about €35K. They did it promptly. Dont think that is possible anywhere in western europe. So I'd recommend BZWBK for their banking services. Mortgagewise, they are among the worse Ive seen in Warsaw so far. Utter useless. C.

Hi Claude Can you elaborate why you felt BZWK were useless as mortgage lender? I ask because, although I have never obtained a mortgage from them previously, I might be forced to do so, as they seem to be the only bank which will grant a mortgage to company owned by a foreign individual. Did you apply for a mortgage as a private individual or as a company? Toby

I have a Nordea Bank account. Good internet access and relatively straightforward to make transfers etc. I am happy with them. Peter

I'm with Nordea. Good internet based service and in English. Got forms notarised and apostilled to open the account and they were ok with that. Can recommend them. Similarly I can recommend HVB in Czech. Very easy to use.

I have a Nordea account - the biggest problem seemed to be the ridiculous length of time it took from actually opening the account to having access to internet banking. Which took a month and a lot of phone calls. Otherwise, it was OK. Nordea's interface, although in english is very unweildy compared to smile and hsbc in the UK and the scratch card login code system is a pain.

The main problem is their over cautiousness. Their LTV ratio is ridiculously low and the paperwork is daunting. I applied as a private self employed individual. Even even if apply as a company, I believe u are far better off working with Open Finance. C

I filled in an online application to open a Nordea bank account. The online pay-off said I would be contacted by email. That was over two weeks ago.

Is this normal, does anyone know, or do I need to chase them up?

I found their online application the easiest way to deal with them. I had tried phoning various branches in warsaw but despite a multitude of phone calls over a few weeks I was unable to find either someone who could speak english or frequently would even answer the phone. Online application went extremely smoothly but yes they seem to be quite slow at posting forms and documents. rgds gmcb
