High Everyone, I am also interested in Cantebury. This was named as one of the 12 hotspots by property secrets at the back end of 07. A large part of the reason was because it was stated that the new rail link was going in at the end of 09. Thus making it an hours journey to London. Does anyone know if this is happening or not now. Hi I think it was probably me that wrote the piece you are referring to. As far as I can ascertain, the new rail link to Canterbury (which in fact is to link with the Channel Tunnel) is about 18 months away from completion being due. Canterbury itself is now heavily marketing the city to would-be investors on the back of the rail link development. You might have missed the boat a little (or perhaps the gravy train, sorry, it was irresistible), given the current housing market conditions, but it is probably still worth exploring. Good luck. Dear Tony, How do you know that I missed the boat. I bought some land down that way, just checking on what is going on. Thank you very much though for your reply. One last thing, is it a done deal and the only issue is time frame, or is it still possible that the powers that be would change their mind. Kind Regards, Tinkerbell

Hi As far as I know the infrastructure is in place (most of it at least) and the remaining part of the phase is to get domestic services running, which is planned for the end of 2009. PS members in and around Canterbury probably have more up to date info, so hopefully they will add messages to this thread. Interestingly, developers are now talking up a proposed third phase, which could see high speed trains running up to Scotland and across most of the UK beyond 2014. But that's all a bit dubious in today's economic climate. I mentioned you may have missed the boat, purely because getting in early was very important for this highly publicised development project. I know for example that Canterbury prices started rising within a month of the first announcement, though the housing market meltdown has since counteracted some of the initial frenzy. Those that invested carefully right at the start will probably still do very well, once things settle down and property prices start climbing again. Tony B
