2008 will see Cyprus in the headlines alot more and bring with it a much awaited 'feel good' factor if everyone is talking about reunification. I see it as a window of opportunity.

I agree that it's positive news but I think likening it to N Ireland is taking it a bit too far!

I agree with Huw. Whilst any positive sentiment is good, I do wonder if people really draw a comparison with Northern Ireland and anyway, do we think that a change of government will really result in a resolution?
What would really help are low cost flights, a healthier pound and better infrastructure ie the much talked about golf courses and marinas

I agree Peter, the weakness of sterling will affect Kapparis as it is currently so British but there seems to be a small surge of interest from Cypriots - I'm holding my breath on this one.

More Cypriots would rid the area of the seasonal aspect and I would prefer to see Paralimni expand as a working town/city rather than a holiday destination, I think reunification will make this happen as I have long believed that we Investors were used to finance the build of a dormitary town to famagusta - we have financed the accomodation for the workers and their families for when/if they get the go ahead to start rebuilding - nothing wrong with this except that we have a cashflow issue whilst waiting for it all to happen!

Someone with more stamina than me will probably do very nicely in SE Cyprus as I can't see how it can fail in the long term.

I guess you know that Easyjet now do reasonable flights from £60 each way to Larnaca?

Jo

The EasyJet flights are to Paphos NOT Larnaca for now, unless you know different, but I just checked their website & that still seems to be the case.

Hopefully they will come to Larnaca when the airport expansion is finished, does anyone know when it is due to finish ?

Sorry, Anthony, my mistake.

The build of the Airport was well underway when we were out there in Dec and we were told 2009 for completion.

Dear all

Regarding the reunification of Cyprus this is a really difficult mater. Do not compare it with Ireland as I can guaranty you that situation in Cyprus is quite more complicated. Also elections are on in Cyprus and we all better know politicians!!! Of course if this happens will be really positive for the Property Value Increase!

Best Regards

Hello Jo,

Hope you are keeping well. Yes, Easyjet now fly into Paphos. It is a result of them buying GB Airways and as a consequence they have taken their routes. Be intersting to see if they are happy keeping them long term.

Be interesting to see if there is a local Cypriot market for buying the apartments. I agree that they are not ideally located to exploit the holiday market but a lot depends on how the infrastructur develops in that corner of Paralimni and Kapparis.

As for lettings, my 2 bed on Santa Marina has had virtually all long term lets with few voids. The only real void period I had was partly filled by a very nice couple from the UK. All other renters have been fom the uk.

My 3 bed rents quite well for holiday lets and because I have bookings for holidays I have had to turn down the odd long term enquiry. This year is filling up fairly steadily but I still need more.

Jo, I have good contacts with letting and selling agents. Drop me an e-mail if you want me to put you in contact, although you may already have the same contacts.

Be g to catch up in any event.

Peter

Hi

Completely agree with Panos. The situation in Cyprus cannot be compared to Nothern Ireland yet if we do see a move towards reunification then it will improve investment sentiment and could affect property values positively
