Hi Charles buddy and other readers,

I was reading an article in EL PAIS online version and it said that in Romania, corruption is alive and well "Russian style" and that since Romania has entered EU the new-rich are getting richer and fatter and the poor poorer, maybe not to such an extent in Cluj as in Bucharest from what you are suggesting Charles.
But capital cities are usually dog eat dog atmospheres anyway.

I am also a big fan of Cluj, the location and surroundings are superb but Bucharest is a very exciting place indeed too!!

I didn´t bother even contemplating buying there (Bucharest) cos from what i had heard, prices were already high and supply low. But I spent 4 days wandering around and was highly impressed by what i saw.

The one easy thing about Cluj is that there is a lot of supply on the market and one can pick and choose new builds, prices for all budgets and tastes and there is also less chance of being ripped off.

I found the people in Cluj very open and trustworthy. Transylvania really is different , isn´t it!

But Bucharest is definitely a place I´d like to live in if I were ever to leave Madrid.
It has a kind of decadent beauty and sophistication while being chaotic and old and dirty at the same time!
AND the women are also really hot there as they are in Cluj... which is another reason for male investors to haul themselves over to Romania, they really have no idea what they are missing out on ;-)

Well, back to Bucharest.., I can honestly say that an apartment worth 200,000€ in centre of Bucharest today will be worth 350,000€ in a few years to come.
Its difficult to make people who have never lived in Spain, Italy or other such countries to understand this or get it into their thick craniums!!

You see I´ve seen all this before - people were telling me that properties in
the centre of Madrid were awfully expensive a few years ago e.g 300,000€ and I agreed at the time, but those very flats are worth over 600,000 today!! You get the picture ??!!! Don´t think there is such great affordability in Spain either and look at prices there!!!

Average salaries of 1000€/month and people still manage to buy up everything, its amazing when you think about it..

You see you have to find value or add value, thats the name of the game.
And a 3-bedroom flat in central Bucharest is good value for money and its still dirt-cheap by European standards.

200,000€ wouldn´t get you as much in Warsaw and in Madrid you´d only get a studio-bedsit nowadays in centre for those prices, so have a think about it and wake up a little from the haze you´ve been wandering around in... ;-)

As Mr Donald Trump one said: " All you have to do is look after the downside and the upside will look after itself" .

And I feel there is a lot of "upside" left in Bucharest and Cluj... In Madrid there is plenty of downside now, old properties out in suburbs for min. 200,000€-250,000€, you couldn´t give em away!!

Bucharest and Romania sounds like better ´added-value´plus give em another 5 or 6 years and they´ll be earning much better wages. all in all, a much better place to put your cash I´d say!!
Regards,

Liam

hi liam

didn't realise that you were based in madrid. i'm also often there, and am invested in bucharest - so glad to read your positive sentiments about the city. perhaps a further discussion of the romanian frontier and other locations over a beer sometime?

i think the rule is you have to ask PS for my contact details rather than me provide them.

anyway, happy hunting, suerte tio,

dan
