in the Presidential election - but only just.

This is a very important result not only for Serbia but also Bulgaria / Sofia as a lot of the trade from Bulgaria passes through Serbia on it way into the heart of Europe and will increase interernational investment confidenence in this region.

This also suggests that we may finally see the beginning of the end of the Kosovo conflict which will bring the remaining parts of ex-Yugoslavia into the EU.

Lets hope they will become a candidate country this year. I for one am looking forward to the proposed abolishment of visas to the EU. My boyfriends brothers haven't been able to visit him in Switzerland for the last 10 + years.

Hi everyone

The Serbian government may be disovled over a disagreement on whether or not to follow a path that leads to the EU and accepts Kosovo independence - by default.

This is likely to lead to a general election - which will in essence be a referendum on joining the EU.

The pro-Europe block did far better than expected - and what with Eurovision in Serbia coming up soon, the pro-European Serbs are having a surprisingly good time.

However, they haven't yet carried the country - as they'll need to form a government with minority parties and a Socialist party that is fundamentally anti-EU.

Not quite a clear cut mandate - but signs of Serbia edging closer to the EU.
