Come on guys, where is the best place to buy ski property in Europe with the best potential for capital growth and some rental income. I'm looking for a place to use myself. Any suggestions for research and please be specific on the resort. Thanks for any help. Dean

Dean,
I have a place in France which has doubled in value over the last two years - but I'd say the big capital increases in France are finished now.
Have you considered any of the CEE locations - Tatras, Prahova in Romania? Only for the brave, but sooner or later the tourists will realise they can ski cheaper over there than in the Alps.
Otherwise I'd suggest looking for somewhere which a) is a real village, so you get a summer and a winter rental season, and/or somewhere which is about to get some investment or a new lift. I've bought in Chatel, in France, right on the edge of the Portes de Soleil and Franco/Swiss border, and there's ongoing talk of a new lift to link the French and Swiss ski areas. Currently you have to ski down, catch a bus across town, and take another lift up. If/when this is ever built, I'd anticipate Chatel values rising again, but it's a bit of a gamble.

Thanks Andrew, I'll look in to Chatel. I am quite a keen skier and I have looked in to the Tatras but it's not as well developed as the Alps. Do you have any preferred estate agent contacts for the region you're talking about and who did you buy through. Thanks again. Dean

Dean,
I could talk all day about Chatel, but everybody else will get bored silly. Equally, I can't post links to any of the local estate agents & etc.
So this is where it would be really useful if there was a method for you and I to talk privately about a subject of mutual interest to us both, but not clog up the board.
PS - any thoughts??

I think if you post, then hit the back button, you get a second identical post.

It reposts the data. I'll see if we can fix that.
Thanks Andrew.

Dean, a little while back I posted a question about Switzerland due to the apparent lower prices there compared to France. I have yet to do proper research but it looks like the Swiss market is opening up to foreigners more so there may be an opportunity. I'll let you know when I have the chance to investigate further.

Thanks Huw,
Please let me know what you find. As a novice what kind of research are you going to do, is it all internet based, give me a few pointers and i'll get going. Cheers Dean
