Slovak Jan Budget Surplus SKK13.03B Vs SKK2.93B In Jan 2007
PRAGUE (Dow Jones)--The Slovak fiscal surplus increased in January on the year driven mainly by higher tax revenue, the Finance Ministry said Friday.
The fiscal surplus was 13.03 billion koruna ($579.5 million), compared with the surplus of SKK2.93 billion in the year-ago month.
The Slovak government had budgeted for a deficit of SKK31.98 billion in 2008, compared with the actual SKK23.53 billion budget gap recorded in 2007.
The government had originally planned for a 2007 budget deficit of SKK38.38 billion.
For the month of January state revenue reached SKK35.00 billion, compared with SKK27.16 billion a year earlier.
Total state expenditure amounted to SKK21.97 billion in January, compared with SKK24.23 billion in the year-earlier month.
Slovakia's finance ministry expects the government to keep its budget deficit at around 2.7% of gross domestic product in 2008, indicating the country is on track to meet the conditions for its planned euro adoption in 2009.
