I am in the process of selling an apartment in Bratislava. As I own the apartment for less than 2 years then I will have a 19% profit tax to pay.
Does anyone know exactly when this tax is due to be paid i.e. is it paid at the end of the slovakian tax year or do they require payment at the time of sale before you can repatriate any funds?

Also, can anyone recommend a good Slovakian accountant?

Do you mind if I ask why you're selling at a time when there appears to be an upturn in prices and rent in Slovakia?

Hi Huw,

No I don´t mind you asking. I´m afraid due to circumstances outside of my control I´m forced into liquidating some of my assets at short notice.
I put a few properties I own on the market but as the Bratislava/Slovakia market is hot at the moment it was the first to go.
Believe me it´s not through choice that I am letting this go....especially as I toughed out the flat spot in the Slovakia market over the last couple of years. I´ll just have to take it on the chin as they say!!

Are you able to shed any light on my tax query.......

I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you made a decent profit anyway. My property manager sorts out my tax returns - I'll make some enquiries and see if I can get a recommendation.

Thanks Huw, any help would be appreciated. I've made a few enquiries but have been unable to get a solid answer.
I made a reasonable profit okay but it's still painful to have to sell at this time with so much of a buzz about Slovakia.....especially as I have other properties that I'd much rather get shot of!
