Thanks for this Tony a very sobering article but just to underline the fact that this is for real I can confirm that it happened to an acquaintance of mine in very similar circumstances with very similar results - ie Land Registry eventually paid compensation after several court sessions for repossession. Again the property was unmortgaged which in a bizarre twist seems to make it easier to lose your property in this way! Perhaps the solution should be to keep a small mortgage on every property so that the mortgage company will always get a warning of any attempted second charge which will certainly send them to the owners correct address! For total Property Energy Assessment now Energy Certificates is very much important...So we should be beware attaining that certificate too..
