One thing I do want to address in this newsletter are the false rumours circulating that you don't have to go to the Czech Republic to collect your EU Card in person and that you can pay someone to collect it on your behalf. Both ourselves and our partner in the Czech Republic have been approached about this and I feel it's important that you know that this is illegal and carries a possible prison term of one to five years and/or a fine.

The following advice was posted on our forum and comes from Star Capital Finance themselves:

"Although you can appoint a power of attorney to submit your application, you must attend the offices of the Foreign Police to collect your EU card. Currently it takes around 30 days to process an application.

"Apparently this illegal practise is being offered word of mouth and is not something you'll find advertised on a web site. People have also been quoted very high prices - an extra CZK25,000 on top of the usual agency arrangement fees - you could have a weekend in Prague for that."
