Population and employment trends then. As I said, David Lawrenson explains what's going on and what it means in part one of a two part article. To whet your appetite, here's an extract - it looks like good news for buy to let landlords.
The number of households in England is expected to grow from just under 21 million to around 26 million by the year 2026, an increase of over 200,000 a year, according to the Office for National Statistics.
One of the biggest factors in the increase is immigration - both legal and illegal. No one really knows the exact figures, though some commentators think the increases from net inward migration have been as high as 400,000 per annum in recent years.
And yet only around 150,000 houses are being built currently every year, so the housing situation is slowly getting worse - and population growth and the even faster growth in household formation goes a long way to explain the dramatic rises in the cost of houses (and rents) over the last quarter of a century.
As any investor knows, high demand and low supply is an opportunity. Read David's article - and watch out for part two - to find out how you can take advantage of these trends.
Robert Liebman completes his two part article with a Tale of Two Cities - namely, New York and London, and what they can tell us with regard to the respective US and UK property markets, what the two can learn from each other - and what we, as property investors, can learn from the differences.
How aware are you of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988? Probably not all that aware, but you need to know about them. And staying on top of safety regulations could save you £££££s and lives! I'd suggest this article is a must-read for UK BTL landlords!
There's a lot happening in Central and Eastern Europe at the moment, not least in Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
Slovenia is all set to join the Eurozone next year - and is slashing its taxes in the process. Another CEE opportunity for the investor looking to expand their portfolio? Read this article by Mark Russell to find out!
In the meantime, changes within the Czech Republic definitely do present a window of opportunity, not least to do with an imminent VAT rise! What's the opportunity then? You'll have to read the article by clicking here!
