Financial crisis 'makes business more transparent'
08 December 2008
The global financial crisis is indirectly having some positive consequences for Bulgaria, it has been suggested.
According to former prime minister Ivan Kostov, the turmoil in the global markets has led to the authorities and businesses being more open about their affairs, reports the Bulgarian News Network.
He commented: "It leads to more transparent business and to a more sober Bulgarian economy."
Mr Kostov added that ensuring that the economy continues to grow should be the most important goal for the government.
This, he said, should be more of a priority than pursuing the "policies of liberalisation".
However, he criticised the government's upcoming draft budget for being too "optimistic" with its growth predictions.
This comes after Quest Bulgaria stated that the country currently has one of the highest economic growth rates in Europe.
The publication said this is likely to remain the case for the foreseeable future.
