Poland: unemployment down, retail sales up
24 July 2009
According to the latest figures published by the Central Statistical Office (GUS), unemployment in Poland dropped in June to 10.7% from 10.8% in May.
At the same time, retail sales increased in June 0.9% year-on-year and 2.2% compare to previous month.
According to Polish economists, the figures are better than expected, but we should not get too excited.
Decline in unemployment rate is a result of increase in number of seasonal jobs and it is forecasted that in the coming months the rate will increase.
