Poland unlikely to join ERM in first half of this year

Poland "probably won't" join the pre-euro ERM2 in the first half of 2009, but will aim to maintain its timetable of joining the Euro in 2012, Deputy Finance Minister Dominik Radziwill has said.

"Joining the ERM will probably not happen in the first half but it doesn't mean it won't happen in 2009," Radziwell said. "We are still planning to enter the euro in 2012."

The Polish zloty is "too volatile" to enter the exchange-rate mechanism "seriously," Ludwik Kotecki, one of Poland's nine deputy finance ministers, has said.
