Poland is not likely to enter the ERM2 currency mechanism in 2009, a source is quoted in the Warsaw Voice as saying.
"Joining the ERM2 mechanism this year is very unlikely," said the source. "In theory it is possible but the large scale of zloty's volatility practically excludes it."
"It is hard to predict that it [volatility] was to be over all of a sudden," the source said.
"Of course, we have to take into account that the volatility range will narrow but it is hard to predict any prospect."
The Voice also reported that the comments came after the release of a strategy paper adopted by the government, that reiterates the requirements for euro adoption by Poland. A period of currency exchange stability is needed to establish the correct entry rate.
