Romania attracts more foreign visitors
21 November 2008
Romania's economy is currently benefiting from a surge in the number of incoming holidaymakers.

According to car rental firm easyCar.com, the eastern European country has been one of the most popular destinations among its customers over the last year.

Indeed, a 540 per cent increase in auto hires in Romania has been recorded during this period.

Meanwhile, the Czech Republic also witnessed growth in its tourism sector, as car rentals went up by 129 per cent.

Bill Jones, chief executive of easyCar, said this shows that many people are opting to visit more affordable destinations instead of traditional tourism hotspots in western Europe.

He commented: "Instead of seeing customers stall their plans to go away, they're opting for locations that will make their money go further."

Earlier this month, Traian Badulescu of the National Tourism Association said Romania is currently seeing a boom in its holiday sector.
