UK government borrowing on the rise
22 July 2009
Government borrowing increased by £13 billion in June 2009. This is the highest monthly deficit for June since 1993.
The increase in public sector net borrowing brought the total deficit over the 12 months to June to £107bn, compared to £42.6bn a year earlier.
The government forecasts that the net borrowing will reach £175 billion in 2009-2010. That would be the worst result after the WWII.
