Those Land Registry figures ARE interesting, I agree.
Not sure your point about the press ignoring them is valid, though. I don't know where you read them, but I read them in the FT and the Telegraph! ;)
Maybe it's more about perception than reality because these data are published every three months and the Halifax and co figures come out every month, specifically to ensure maximum press coverage.
On a more serious point, though, it is interesting that the Land Registry figures are more representative in that they show actual prices paid and that these data are very much in line with what the excellent new FT property index is showing - Excluding London, where prices have proved more resistant to the downturn, UK house prices fell 0.6 per cent on a monthly basis in July. Nationwide, they fell 0.3 per cent and are only 0.3 per cent higher than they were in July 2007.
