I was am unclear on the position with property insurance , i have 2 appartments and understand that in Slovakia the property maintence monthly fee includes for outside the appartment , and that I may need to get extra buildings insurance .

Does anyone have any advice , and who would be the best company / broker through which to buy insurance for buildings and contents

Yes you should have the flat and the contents insured .

I have found Kooperattiva Insurance quite competitive in Slovakia ( well this year )

Flat insurance was for a 80m2 flat in the Old town 55 EUR, Contents insurance was 40 Eur .

Your Management company should be able to arrange this for you .

Never use Kooperativa! In case of troubles they will never pay anything. I have got bad experience with them.
I used "Slovenska poistovna" or Union.
